In an open letter to her son,

“I swear you’re going to thank me one day for this. I make sure that you do things around the house because I don’t want to be responsible for turning a young man who is unable to take care of his basic needs loose in the world. When I give you things to do, they are real things that need to be done, not busy work.  However, when I open the dryer to discover that you didn’t actually turn it on when you loaded it, I understand exactly why some people might choose to handle all the chores on their own. Thank you for reminding me that besides being a virtue that patience is important.”
