I almost wrote “kitten adventures” for the title of this post. Entirely different connotation, far creepier.
But, alas, I wrote kitchen adventures.
Recently, I purchased a book called 1001 Foods You Must Taste Before You Die. I had been lovingly thumbing through the book every time I went to the bookstore. So, finally, inevitably, I bought it. As you can imagine, I now want to ensure that I taste these foods before I die.
There are several items in the book which I have tasted like nori, morels and frozen peas. There are things here which I have not tried, but would want to, or at the very least wouldn’t think twice about trying. Among these are: yuzu, boysenberry and hazelnut oil. Then, there are things which would have never occurred to me including:giant water beetle, leaf-cutter ant and banana ketchup. Would I ever eat a giant water beetle? Well, if it were the one food item standing between me and the achievement of eating the 1001 things that I must, well, maybe.
I think that I will embark upon a journey to taste the items in this book. I will also re-taste those which I have already tried. This starts today. I am hoping to use this project to push myself to taste new things and also to really concentrate on the flavors and textures of what I’m eating.
