I joked with some friends that I wanted to win over the beau’s mother one French pastry at a time.
I was joking.
Really.
No, seriously, I have wanted to make croissants for years. At this point, for over ten years. Time is funny like that. Ten years ago, for example, if you told me that I would have ever completed a marathon, I would have looked at you politely, but wondered what your home planet was. If you told me that it would take over ten years for me to finally make croissants, I would silently wonder just what made you underestimate me so.
When I read Make the Bread, Buy the Butter, I remembered that I wanted to make croissants. But that was months ago.
Then the day came where I told myself, “Now.” But I wasn’t at home. And my recipe wasn’t with me. So I wound up using Google Books to pull up part of the recipe, and consulting some other places to come up with the rest.
I took the scenic route, but success was mine.
