I am sure that such things exist on the market, but I thought it would be fun to make a hot salt. Often I want to add a bit of heat and a bit of salt to what I’m eating. The answer, in that case, could be hot salt! My original idea, which I will likely try at a later time, was to pulse hot pepper with coarse salt and then bake it at a low temperature to dry out the moisture from the pepper and get a hot salt. I didn’t have hot peppers, and I really wasn’t going to go to the store again this weekend, so I decided to use that hot sauce that I made a little while ago.
This salt is made from Habanero hot sauce. Here, you definitely get the heat, but also the fruitiness you read so much about when you read about Habanero peppers. Overall, I would call this a success. I can’t wait for an excuse to use it!
