Ever since I made my own napkins, I’ve considered making my own hankies or tissues.
This is the part where I think that anyone who knows me and has heard me blow my nose just felt their tummies twirl as if they were on a rollercoaster. But the thing is my nose blowing is much more bark than bite…. Yeah, I should get off of this road, halt on this topic immediately.
Last summer I even bought a special attachment for my sewing machine to help me make handkerchiefs. However right now when I feel like I have the time and desire to try my hand at this project, I don’t know where the attachment is. This would have helped me make a super thin hem on a one-ply handkerchief.
Since my absentmindedness and lack of having a place for every thing and every thing in it’s place, I needed to change plans.
I love Google.
I love Pinterest.
There were so many ideas to choose from.
When it came down to it, I just wanted something simple, so I went with these. Mine are more rectangular than square though. They’re about 8 inches by 5.5 inches.
Fortunately/unfortunately, I haven’t had much of a chance to test these out. I decided to make them because I was feeling a bit sniffly. However, making these flannel tissues seemed to function the same way as saying “Excuse me, I’m going to sneeze…” It just never came.
My son wasn’t grossed out by the idea. I asked him if he wanted one for his coat pocket so that he could wipe his nose when it got cold outside. His face lit up and he was happy to take it. He told me that it was better than the alternative, which I had to pretend I wasn’t hearing. I just didn’t want to know what non-tissue solution he had found.
