Everything is talking about how dang cold it is. I’m one of them. But I won’t do that here because whatever I have to say has been said.
I’ve decided though to dig into my deepest optimism and try to think about winter in a positive way. I’m bringing out the big guns. What’s that? Citrus. More specifically, grapefruit.
The grapefruit right now is so good. This is the part where I skip all of the immediate descriptions that come to mind because they sound positively, well, not family friendly. So to make the best of my thoughts about this refreshing fruit which is simultaneously sweet and tart, this fruit that rewards you if you unwrap it carefully, taking the time to think about how not to bruise it, how to preserve every ounce of juice until you’re ready to consume it. See, I shouldn’t be allowed to talk about grapefruit.
I’m about to make it worse. When I think about grapefruit, you know, when I’m not thinking that a good one is going to be fragrant and heavy for it’s weight in my hand, I remember my dad eating grapefruit. In fact, when I thought about writing this post, I texted him to ask him whether he is still a grapefruit super fan. He is.
I always mean to take advantage of grapefruit season. When winter seems to last forever, it’s easy to think that you have forever to casually encounter great bags of it in every store. With my Pinterest board, maybe this year, I’ll squeeze more enjoyment out of the post-holiday cold season.
