I don’t sew often, but as time goes by, I find more and more pieces of my wardrobe were born of my own sewing machine.
Part of it has to do with this body. I am of ample bosom, of long and generous thigh, and I come with a nice pat of behind. This creates complications when shopping. Things can get real weird, real fast. The problem with this, besides being uncomfortable, is that if my cups runneth over, who is to know that isn’t the look I’m going for?
For the record: that’s not the look I’m going for.
So, sometimes I sew.
According to Stitcher, I’ve listened to I’ve listened to a lot of podcasts over the last two and a half years. 1,311 hours worth of podcasts. One of the ones that I’m enjoying right now is Abby Glassenberg‘s, While She Naps podcast. Each week Glassenberg talks with someone creative about what they do and how they go about doing it. I love it; and have found it inspiring.
Recently I listened to an episode of the podcast when Abby G. talks with Sonya Philip, a fiber artist who embarked upon a project called 100 Acts of Sewing. The short story is that Philip took a sewing class that focused on drafting patterns, then she made a dress. Then she made some more. Then she decided to make 100 of them. Pretty dang awesome.
This totally made me want to make one of her dresses. So, I ordered a pattern. Life happened for a while, then I decided that this weekend was going to be the weekend that I made one of these dresses. So, I traced the pattern and got to work and have a dress that I’m excited to wear.
That encouraged me to finish up some projects that I had started. One of them was a simple skirt that was pretty much done, but I needed to trim the threads from it. That is about my least favorite part of sewing! At that point in game, you’re so close, yet removing those threads can be tedious. I had another skirt to finish. This one just required an elastic waistband. Then there were two more skirts, both of which were cut out. One of them needed a waistband and to be hemmed. The other one needed the same thing, but had two layers. I could will do another post on that skirt because it should seriously be called the skirt of mistakes. There was one thing after another with that skirt.
For right now, I seemed moved to sew. I know how these things work for me, so I best take advantage of it while this particular spirit moves me.
